SALT PRODUCTION

World production of salt, in 1981, exceeded 168,000,000 t (185,000,000 tons) and is growing by over 3,600,000 t (4,000,000 tons) per year. Approximately four percent of this production comes from a nation with about one half of one percent of the world's people- Canada. Canada's salt production comes from underground rock salt deposits and the salt is either mined or brought to the surface in the form of brine.
